Master of Science with specialization in Medical Physics

Medical Physics is a recently established research area at the Faculty of Physics, which is offered as topical specialization within the Master of Science program. Interested students can concentrate their elective lectures and seminars on a curriculum in modern radiation therapy and advanced imaging methods. Together with the accomplishment of a Master thesis work in this field, it is possible to obtain an LMU Medical Physics Master certificate.

An effort is being put to comply with the recommendations of the German Society for Medical Physics (DGMP) for obtaining recognition of the absolved curriculum and providing unrestrained perspectives towards a professional or academic career in medical physics. Students seeking only a casual introduction to Medical Physics are equally welcome as those aiming to become experts in the field.

The full curriculum builds a solid foundation to modern medical physics methods, with special emphasis on advanced radiation therapy and imaging. This is presented in a coordinated set of lectures, partly within the regular physics program and partly in the form of special lectures. Emphasis is given to the communication of state-of-the-art techniques in radiological science and to the opportunity of pursuing a Master Thesis on cutting-edge research in the context of national and international collaborations and in close connection with the Munich University Hospital as well as the Center for Advanced Laser Applications (CALA).
